Tubular Dowel Crime Scene Reconstruction has improved my reconstructions tremendously…

Luckily for those of us in the fields of forensics and law enforcement, technology to help in not only investigating but also reconstructing these crimes is constantly improving and advancing. For this reason, I could not have been more pleased by the accuracy and dependability of Carolina Forensics’ Tubular Dowel Crime Scene Reconstruction Kit. This new kit is not meant to replace the traditional wooden dowel and strings method, nor the more advanced aluminum/fiberglass rods and laser methods; however its ability to display the trajectory of a bullet through and through a victim with such easily understood simplicity and clarity is truly hard to beat. The laser beams provided in this kit have the ability to demonstrate the trajectory of a projectile through a mannequin in its entirety. Three points make this possible: the tripod (representing the shooter), the tubular dowels representing the path of the trajectory through the “victim”, and the laser which displays the trajectory from the tripod (point of origin) through the dowels inside of the mannequin, and on to its end point.  For true accuracy, the tripod is equipped with six laser-bases so that the best laser and position can be used depending on lighting conditions. The result is the closest thing to a real-life shooting reconstruction that has ever been utilized by crime scene investigators, which can be used to show the hypothesis of a shooter’s position during a shooting incident in a court-room setting. This is quickly becoming a highly recommended court-room necessity, as it does even more to ensure the likelihood of the most thorough investigation possible, and also a successful prosecution.
